GRANDMOTHERS in Song & Dance
Were you in Times Square on Valentine's Day? It was bitterly cold. No matter, the Grandmothers against the War and their many supporters were there for you. Bev, me, Molly, Barbara--the three of them are members of the group arrested on October 17 in this same place, Times Square, near the Army Recruiting Station.
We sang...we danced--
There's NO business like WAR business [canes forward]...the best business we know [canes back]
Never mind the homeless and the hungry, Nowhere can you get that special feeling...Than seeing cities we've destroyed! [Left arm up, showgirl style]...
We speechified...Vinie Burrows, the actress, one of the 18 arrested grandmothers.
Norman Siegel, intrepid lawyer for Grandmothers Against the War with Joan Wile, singer/songwriter who started the weekly vigil at Rockeller Center two years ago-- that started it all.
Jenny, to the left, and Ann, two more arrestees-- with hearts for our performance, offered more than once to a cheering crowd.
THE TRIAL of the 18 GRANDMOTHERS is coming up next week....Thursday, April 20, in New York City. Please be there to give your support: 8:30 AM at the Criminal Court, 100 Centre Street, New York City. Make your statement against the war in Iraq.
