One Year in Blogland
Back in the heady days of second wave feminism "who am I?" was on our minds. We'd make lists--worker, mother, wife--did we have all the roles, the order right? So, here I am in the 21st century, the one I'll spend less time in than the last, with blogging my current identity challenge.
It was so easy at the start. Wrote posts, learned how to put in links and pictures. More complex to think about categories--some changes have happened. I'm fascinated by blogs that have none; that feels like freefall. Discovered there are too many events, images to write about.
A litany of what eludes me would include: how to get control of blog's appearance, stay on-message (do I always care?), who is my audience, understanding feed, html--almost as puzzling as why all those people voted for Bush again. I take that back; one day I will get it about the former, never the latter.
At the blog, doulicia. a perfect category, "Knitting plus (politics, science, etc.)" has been invented. I'm pleased to be included. Both of us offer readers our yarn projects and issues and ideas that trouble us.
To the left is a F.O., knit talk for "finished object." It's the second I've made, Plymouth Encore (75 acyrlic, 25 wool) on #6 needles. Called a "Toddler's Knitted Helmet," it had been sleeping in my stash for some time. because I am not crazy about working with this yarn. Then my daughter mentioned that it was perfect for little Zoe because it was hard for her to snatch off her head. It's free, online here. Thank you to Sandra Turner wherever you are.
What about the dark side of knitting, the dread
ed Ribbit, the sound made by ripping. This vest, yarn spun early on by Ron, beautiful hand-dyed indigo by Darlene Hayes of Hand Jive Knits. Met her on our first visit to Black Sheep Gathering in Oregon. She encouraged me in my early days with Condom Amulets, and like doulicia is another very political, non-practicing lawyer who knits. A trend? Possibly--the blogger, Go Knit in Your Hat is another.
Reason the vest is returning to yarn is bulky yarn and bad design (horizontal stripes?) produced a little red hen who resembled a top-heavy house. Like me and my blog, sometimes it works, other times it's clunky. Where I'm going with this craft will be explored further.

happy blogiversary! Funny how I thought you had been around much longer!

It is hard to figure out what category a blog is, sometimes. Heaven only knows what mine is, as I write whatever I'm interested in that day, and I don't think there is a category with that title. Unless it is potpouri.

well, who ARE we? A blog is only a partial answer to that. My blog says something like "love for the English language," which is FAR from what it's turned out to be. If we could figure out who we are, and what we want most in the world to be, our blog would fall from our fingertips (the typing, y'know) with great ease.
Be here now. that's the only answer for me. it involves trust. I am only a small small person in creation, yet i have been created. it's not up to me to know or decide why.
woddya think?
