Before you know it, I will look like this too. Known as La Mujer de las Palmas, she seems familiar, "short, spry, slightly graying hair." Kind of like the dress, her big stick--the slightly curved staff, could be helpful any day now. The shoes look like a leather version of my green (Iguana) canvas Keen's. All together it is a smart and comfortable ensemble, with a pair of fused glass earrings, and a NO WAR patch. That's why bumper stickers read, "Stop Endless War." Might qualify for a special edition of Advanced Style.
Links to Ancient Woman and her story offered here along with another recent discovery, oldest leather shoes for your consideration on astounding progress made by modern man (yes, we ladies had nothing to do with urge for "betterment"--bras and high heels).

Fascinating stuff this with your wonderful humour thrown in! I'd read about the shoe find but this particular reconstruction of an elder woman is new to me, thanks! It's reminding me that I've been meaning to do a post on 'paleoartists', those who create these models of ancient figures.

Ancient woman was probably about 40 years old. They didn't live long enough to become white haired. Or so I have been told.
I solved the uncomfortable shoe problem; I go barefoot around the house. Of course, when I go outside that becomes another problem. I can hardly wait to get home to shed my shoes. ;-)

leave it to you to nail the fashion part! and darlene, you don't have to be old to be grey. one of my sisters-in-law was grey by the time she was 30 or so.

Fascinating! I think she is quite beautiful. Darlene is right that she was probably 4o...maybe even younger. And like Darlene I have been going barefoot this summer in the house and my feet feel great. But I don't live in AZ and my feet are in for a big shock a few months down the line.
I do believe you will find this post by one of my favorite bloggers truly fascinating, now that you are a Portlander!

Oh, I see! TypePad just does this a bit differently than Blogger. (Not that I will remember this the next time I have a link to share with you, however.)

Highly speculative, if fun! Actually, that woman looks a lot like my aunt Peachie Cordero, who lived with us in her last years and died at age 82.
