Earlier this week Kristin Bowling, former Park Ranger, and I met for lunch. She was my instructor a couple of years ago when she was in a graduate education program at Portland State. She'd designed a class about Vanport, the WWII ship-building site that brought many African Americans to Portland, and now mostly known for the disastrous flood that ended life there. The class was a high point in my latelife learning.
This summer she's led a program I'd never heard about, City Nature, a naturalist education experience offered to teens through Portland's Parks and Recreation. In June, Kristin gave me useful information from her knowledge of the national parks as we planned our family trip to the Redwoods. Found the reminder posted above on her Facebook page. Know she'd approve of my passing it along.
